Giving is Gorges Day is here!

Giving is Gorges is TODAY, and we are asking you to join us in our efforts to make this the most awesome day of giving Tompkins County has ever seen!

Here is a story from one of our program participants on their success’ throughout our programs:

Imagine being told nobody loves you, and your attitude won’t get you far. I’m not perfect, it took me trials and tribulations to get here. I’ve had to give my life to start back at zero. The odds were always against me, a young African American single mom of 3, practically living at poverty level. Well, let me formally introduce myself. I am Brooklynn Davis, I am a single mother of 3, and I am a part of the [Child Development Council’s Family Services program.

As I started my journey as a parent of 2 (twin boys), I came across [the Family Services program]. Personally, I have a hard time trusting people, but this program made me feel like I can trust and have support. It took a while for me to open up to them and ask for help. This program is truthfully more helpful to me than anything, I have hit rock bottom a few times and the program was able to assist me. Although I made them my last option- I always like to see if I can make it happen before I step out and ask for help. It is kind of crazy that they have watched me grow as a parent, identify goals, find solutions, and grow as a college graduate.

Honestly, I never felt like anyone had my back the way this program does when I am in a tight spot and even when I am on a straight path. They took the time to learn and understand me, as well as my passion for self advocacy. I feel like these relationships we built; I’d rather not build it with anyone else. This program has been a part of me for a while, and I am thankful for it.

This program is honestly so beneficial to many families and teen parents, sometimes they may go above and beyond, but that’s what makes this whole program unique. I have never truthfully had anyone that has been on my side and respected my wishes as much as they have.
