The Child Development Council is seeking an outstanding individual to implement an innovative new approach in partnering with families to promote parenting success and family stability in Tompkins County.
The Family Support Specialist will provide a high level of individualized, participate-led support to families with young children living in Tompkins County. Program services are delivered through regular home visits and include prenatal and parenting education, child development information and assessments, informal emotional support and crisis intervention, goal planning and connection to community resources.
Qualifications: The qualified candidate must possess a Bachelor’s degree with a background in human services, early childhood education, or a related field. A reliable vehicle, valid driver’s license and ability to travel within Tompkins County and neighboring areas are also required.
- Firm understanding of issues relating to pregnancy, infant and toddler development, parenting, and family dynamics required.
- Home visiting experience and knowledge of substance abuse disorders, domestic violence, and child welfare are highly desired.
- Applicants must be able to think on their feet, have sound decision making skills, enjoy young children and understand their development, recognize the realities of parenting, and appreciate families of all design.
Compensation is based on education and experience with a hiring salary range of $30,000- $34,000, plus an additional $5,000 in cafeteria benefits. This position is full time, 35 hours per week.
