Early Head Start

Tompkins Community Action was awarded a grant for Early Head Start. The Council has been named as a delegate agency to provide Early Head Start home visiting services. This is an exciting addition to our long standing Family Support and Teen Pregnancy/Parenting Programs. The Early Head Start program is a federally funded community-based program for low-income families with infants and toddlers and pregnant women. Its mission includes:

• promoting healthy prenatal outcomes for pregnant women

• enhancing the development of infants and toddlers

• promoting healthy family functioning

The advances in the field of infant and toddler development shine a light on the importance of parenting education and support right from the start.
